Review of telecom prices launched

New price controls come into force in March 2005
A major review of telecom prices in Guernsey is being launched.

The Office of Utility Regulation (OUR) is carrying out the research ahead of new price controls being introduced in March of next year.

The existing controls were implemented in 2002 before the purchase of Guernsey Telecoms by Cable and Wireless.

The new investigation will look at how the market has changed since then, and whether Cable and Wireless still holds a dominant position.

Consumers' views

The review is also setting out to examine how the prices of key services, provided by Cable and Wireless, have changed since 2002.

OUR regulatory manager John Buckland said the views of consumers would be welcome.

"We are seeking very specific and detailed information from Cable and Wireless and other operators," he said.

"But we will be pleased with any input from consumers interested in the outcome of this review."
