Regulator called into phone row
Mobile phone mast
Wave has clashed with Cable and Wireless over mast-sharing
Guernsey's utility regulator has been asked to help resolve a dispute between Wave Telecom and Cable and Wireless.

Wave Telecom is calling on the Office of Utility Regulation to bring an end to problems it says could further delay the start of its mobile phone service.

Wave said Cable and Wireless (C&W) was refusing to continue testing a link between the two companies' systems because it found errors on the network.

C&W said it had worked hard to assist in resolving technical difficulties.

Minor errors

The Office of Utility Regulation (OUR) has given Wave a new date of 1 July to set up its mobile phone service after it failed to make a launch date of 30 April.

Wave's managing director, Tim Ringsdore, said the company intended to launch its service on the date set - but this would only happen if C&W agreed to complete the testing of the link.

He said errors found on the network were only minor and would not affect the C&W systems, and that the purpose of testing was to iron out such problems.

C&W said it was disappointed that Wave felt the need to ask the OUR to intervene.

The company said: "We have worked hard to assist Wave in resolving the technical difficulties that have been experienced. Many of Wave's problems lie outside our control."
