Initiative for affordable housing

Joint co-operation is the future of affordable housing in Guernsey
The opening of new social housing in Guernsey is the start of a new era for the island, according to the housing minister.

More than 150 units of accommodation are being built at Delancey by the Guernsey Housing Association.

Deputy Dave Jones says the way the properties are being procured is the way forward.

He believes that although the States has a duty to provide services, it does not necessarily have to run them.

Mr Jones said: "I think the new Guernsey Housing Association will move forward and as more and more properties come on stream, this really is the future for affordable, rental housing in Guernsey.

"I believe working together with the housing associations and the housing department, we can make a real difference."
