Self-build moves closer in island
Guernsey States interior
It is the last Guernsey States meeting of the present era
Guernsey residents are one step closer to being able to build their own homes.

An amendment to instruct the island's Housing Authority to report back to the States on the feasibility of self-build in no more than a year was passed by the States on Thursday.

The amendment was brought by Deputy Mike Burbridge, and seconded by Deputy Dan Le Cheminant.

Guernsey Housing Authority's proposals for affordable housing schemes have also been approved by the States.

Partial ownership

The move will mean the introduction of a partial ownership scheme, to be run by the Housing Association.

Other topics still to be discussed in the last Guernsey States meeting of the present era include the future of air links to the island as well as three requetes.

The States is being asked to investigate what financial checks were made on the companies involved in the new airport terminal project.

A group of politicians is calling for a tribunal to look into why the Island Development Committee supported a development at the Sandpiper vinery in St Peters.

And the third requete wants the Board of Health to come up with better plans for speech therapy provision.
