Guernsey politicians are being asked to approve the commissioning of a report into housing for people in need. Deputy John Gollop has placed an amendment calling for the new Health and Social Services Department to look into the need for, and future provision of, housing for a number of groups.
Deputy Gollop wants research done into the possibility of providing accommodation for ex-offenders and for the temporarily homeless on sites other than St Julian's House.
Halfway house
He particularly wants to see a halfway house for the rehabilitation of offenders.
Deputy Gollop does not think all the facilities can be on one site, so wants the department to look at alternatives.
His amendment also calls for assurances on the future of the residents at St Julian's house, if the house is refurbished or its use is changed.
