Island's survey results revealed
View of Alderney
About 1300 of the island's 2000-strong population responded
Traffic has topped the list of concerns revealed by a survey in Alderney.

It shows residents want fewer cars, better leisure facilities and improved transport links.

Islanders' views on the future of Alderney were sought through a questionnaire sent to every adult by the community group, Vision Alderney.

About 1300 of the island's 2000-strong population responded to questions on a wide range of topics including housing, transport and standards of living.

Vision Alderney is hoping to use the data to inform the debate on the island's future and a full analysis of the results will be available later this year.

The organisation's Chairman Richard Wilmott said respondents also wanted to tackle the issue of second homes.

He said: "What people wanted a lot fewer of was part-time residents and houses for part-time residents

"And when asked how funds might be raised a suggestion from more than half of those who wrote in was to have some kind of tax on second home owners."
