Row over hospital car park
Princess Elizabeth Hospital
There have been parking problems in the past at the hospital
People in Guernsey are being reassured that patient care will not be jeopardised by a new car park which could be built at the island's Princess Elizabeth Hospital.

Two States committees disagree over the provision of parking at the Princess Elizabeth Hospital.

The Board of Health has said it urgently needs permission to build a car park at the Corbinnerie site which can accommodate nearly 230 vehicles.

However, the Island Development Committee (IDC) has opposed the plans and the matter is being taken to the States this week.

The IDC has objected to the plans which propose using a the field alongside the new mental health care and continuing care units for parking.

It said the Board of Health had not done enough to explore the possibility of building a multi-storey car park instead.

The Board of Health claimed the scheme for the field alongside the new units would be carefully landscaped and would not interfere with patients' well-being.
