Hospital to be expanded
Princess Elizabeth Hospital, Guernsey
The board says it wants to ensure patient care does not suffer
Guernsey's Princess Elizabeth Hospital is to get a fourth operating theatre and have its critical care unit expanded.

The Board of Health's proposal was passed after States members rejected a sursis from Deputy Hunter Adam.

He said the Board of Health needed to go back and assess the cost-effectiveness of the proposals but was defeated by 26 votes to 15 on Friday.

The President of the Board of Health, Deputy Peter Roffey, argued patient care would suffer if the work was not done.

He said the operating theatres already in place were far busier than guidelines recommend and that a new one would help address this.
