States to debate new committees
States of Guernsey
New committees are to take over areas of government
The way Guernsey's new government will work is the main topic up for discussion in the island's States this week.

Debate gets under way on Wednesday and will also see deputies debate a number of amendments and a sursis.

The main topic is the mandates of the new States committees.

The proposals face amendment from the Board of Health, which wants to see the new Health and Social Services department take over residential homes from Housing.

Deputies Lyndon Trott and Dave Jones have also placed an amendment calling for the new Public Accounts Committee to hold meetings in public.

There is also expected to be controversy over a sursis placed by Deputy Hunter Adam.

Deputy Adam is calling for the Board of Health's plans for a new operating theatre and more critical care units to be thrown out while research is done on how cost effective the proposals are.

Mooring charges, airport cargo storage and parish reserves are also on the agenda.
