States members to declare interests
States of Guernsey
The rules are to help make Guernsey's government more open
The dealings of Guernsey politicians will be under close scrutiny when reworked rules over members' business practices come into force.

The States is being asked to approve a revised wording to the rules governing the declaration of members' interests.

Politicians will have to declare all directorships and shareholdings under new Rules of Procedure.

The President of the Procedures and Constitution Committee, Deputy Roger Berry, said the changes are being made as part of the move towards more open government.

'Tighter wording'

Deputy Berry said: "There is nothing that people will be able say 'Well, I don't have to declare that'.

"Everything that they are involved in will have to be declared, and that really was the intention of the original rule when it was drawn up a long time ago.

"It maybe could have drawn up with a tighter wording and that's what we're trying to get in place."

The States will be asked to approve the changes when members meet next week.
