This picture by an amateur photographer was flashed around the world  A French gendarme looks at the smouldering pile of charred wood, twisted metal and cement left behind  Rescue helicopters were quickly on the scene  A huge plume of black smoke could be seen for miles  Two massive ruts were gouged out of the field  The crash caused widespread devastation on the ground  The plane slammed into a hotel, leaving parts of it in rubble and in flames  Firemen fought to bring the flames under control  The hotel smoulders hours after the crash | |
