Concorde: One year after the crash

The 113 victims of the Concorde crash in Paris are remembered on the first anniversary of the tragedy. Meanwhile, following a successful test flight and the news of passenger flights being resumed in the autumn, the plane prepares to return to the skies.

Exactly one year on from when concorde crashed into a hotel shortly after take-off from Paris Charles de Gaulle airport, a number of ceremonies took place across France to remember those who died.

British Airways has confirmed its fleet of Concorde aircraft should resume passenger flights in September. Initially the service will be limited to one daily round flight between London and New York. Air France says it hopes to resume its Concorde flights in October.

Concorde has successfully completed its first supersonic test flight since it was grounded a year ago. The plane's fuel tanks have been lined with Kevlar to prevent a repeat of last year's crash in France.

New tyres can survive a high-speed puncture

Concorde will make its first test flight on 17 July since the fleet was grounded. British Airways confirm a plane will take off from London's Heathrow airport. It will fly over the Atlantic for approximately three hours and 20 minutes before returning to RAF Brize Norton in Oxfordshire.

Air France files a suit against America's Continental Airlines for its alleged role in the Concorde crash. French investigators believe that a metal strip that burst the Concorde's tyres may have come from a Continental DC-10 aircraft.

Air France Concordes are to remain grounded after flight experts from France and Britain fail to agree extra safety measures following the Paris crash. A spokesman for France's civil aviation authority says the ban will remain "until further notice".
