The 2009 G8 summit is being held in the Italian town of L'Aquila, which was devastated by an earthquake in April.
Italy's Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi will play host to the leaders of the world's foremost industrialised nations, including US President Barack Obama.
Duncan Kennedy gained access to the event's control room from where the summit is co-ordinated and serviced by scores of people.
