Italy's quake city being rebuilt

Leaders of the G8 group of nations are converging on the Italian city of L'Aquila, which was devastated by an earthquake in April. Around 300 people were killed.

The G8 organisers say they have made sure the conference will be held safely in an army-style barracks on the edge of the city.

For people living there, the main concern is not all the dignitaries about to visit them, but getting out of tents and hotel rooms and back into proper homes.

The government has promised that everyone will be in a decent home by the end of the year.

Some of the apartments being used by the G8 delegates will be turned over to families when the conference ends.

Much of L'Aquila has become a building site. Duncan Kennedy visited one site to see the progress of the work there.
