The leader of the Roman Catholic Church in England and Wales, the Most Reverend Vincent Nichols, has said it is a "day for a new beginning" following an inquiry into sexual abuse at Catholic institutions.
The inquiry found church leaders knew sexual abuse was "endemic" in Irish Catholic boys' institutions.
