Cattle breeding plans defeated
Jersey cow
The society voted against importing cattle semen
Plans to reverse laws banning the importation of bull semen into Jersey have been defeated by a majority vote.

The ballot was held amongst members of the Royal Jersey Agricultural and Horticultural Society.

The society's council said it wanted to improve the Jersey breed in the island and that included importing semen from Jersey bulls in other countries.

However, members voted against the move by two to one.

The council will be meeting on Wednesday to consider the implications of this result.
