Call for curb on speeders
Speedo
Police have recently monitoring speeders around the island
Residents in a Guernsey parish have been calling for action against drivers who treat the area "like a racetrack".

St Martin's Deputy, Francis Quin, says residents are getting increasingly concerned about speeding hotspots, such as Saumarez Road.

He says a number of people have contacted him directly, saying the parish needs to take action and to ask if traffic calming measures could be introduced to make the area safer.

Mr Quin said St Martin's is a village area and any measures to curb speeding motorists would be broadly welcomed.

Moving elsewhere

But he also said the problem is island-wide and should be dealt with accordingly.

Mr Quin said: "There have been were six serious accidents in the area this year, and someone has been knocked over at the crossing at St Martin's.

"I asked for a traffic report, which they did a year ago. An interesting thing in the report was that it showed 80% of cars in the Grande Rue were doing 30 to 33 miles per hour - and that is a 25 miles per hour zone.

"So that's not just 'Kevs', it's people just going to the shops and all the rest of it."

Police have recently been monitoring speeders on a so-called "Kev Run", between the Bridge and Town.

But Mr Quin says he feels this may lead to them moving elsewhere on the island.
