There are similar schemes in the UK |
Guernsey's pedestrian safety group wants to be allowed to use speed guns as part of its fight to improve road safety. The President of the Home Affairs Committee, Deputy Mike Torode, will face questions on the issue at a Stop Traffic Endangering Pedestrian Safety (STEPS) meeting on Tuesday evening.
The road safety group is concerned not enough is being done to stop motorists speeding in the island.
It wants to follow in the footsteps of community schemes in the UK, were similar groups are allowed to use the hand-held devices.
The group will be expecting to hear answers from Deputy Torode on issues relating to speeding, driving and parking on pavements, and the court's sentencing policy, amongst other things.
Since it was formed, STEPS has worked closely with the police in an effort to tackle traffic problems.
The meeting takes place at 1930 BST at the Princess Elizabeth Hospital and is open to anyone.
