Safety watchdog reveals plans
Pedestrians
Safety group Steps has carried out a number of walking audits
A Guernsey pedestrian rights watchdog has launched a series of events in the run-up to National Road Safety Week later this year.

Steps, which is now in its second year, held an open meeting on Tuesday night where plans for the year ahead were revealed.

The group's name stands for Stop Traffic Endangering Pedestrians Safety, and that is exactly what it aims to do.

In its first year, Steps carried out a number of walking audits, in conjunction with the States Traffic Committee, in areas around many of the island's primary schools.

The findings have enabled the Traffic Committee to implement traffic calming measures in areas where pedestrian movement is high.

More recently, the group met with the Island Development Committee's forward planning group to look at ways of improving the quality of public streets and spaces.

Steps chairperson Ann Robilliard said there were a number of other events planned for the coming months to look at ways of improving safety for pedestrians.
