The car was used to raise awareness of safety issues on roads |
The sight of a concertinaed car in Guernsey's Church Square has failed to shock many islanders into stopping to find out more. The crashed car was placed in the square to draw people in to pause and reflect on the implications of the road accident statistics displayed nearby.
The co-ordinator of Guernsey's Road Safety Week, Pat Wisher, said she stood and watched public reaction to the crushed car.
She said she was surprised at how many people did not stop to give it a second look.
Resounding success
But she said overall the week had been a resounding success.
She said it had achieved its aim of raising awareness of safety issues on the island's roads.
She is anxious for the message to remain in people's minds, and hopes it will not be forgotten once the week is over.
And local police will be conducting speed gun checks around the island on Saturday to crack down on speeding motorists.
