Law chief seeks talks
Jersey States
The States debate was held in private for legal reasons
Jersey's Solicitor General has written to all the island's politicians after a States Member complained about the style of her advice.

Senator Ted Vibert claimed Stephanie Nicolle's guidance to members in the debate about the Les Pas land issue had been unhelpful and unconstructive.

Senator Vibert was opposed to the States giving 10m land to Les Pas Holdings Limited to settle a long running court case.

Following the in camera debates on the matter, he wrote to Miss Nicolle claiming her treatment of himself and other members was unhelpful and unconstructive.

He said this was a view shared by other States Members.

Miss Nicolle has emailed all States Members in response, saying the comments caused her grave concern.

'Played a blinder'

She said that as solicitor general for about 10 years she had always sought to give legal advice to the best of her ability.

Miss Nicolle wrote to Mr Vibert asking who the other States Members were.

But she said he responded by saying there were at least a dozen, he would need their permission, and he had "better things to do".

In her email, the solicitor general said she wanted to resolve the matter by meeting States Members unhappy with her.

However, a number of politicians have already signalled their support for Miss Nicolle.

One told her she had "played a blinder on the day" and was "entirely professional and objective".
