Inquiry 'waste of time and money'
Jersey States
The States debate was held in private for legal reasons
A public inquiry into the Les Pas land deal is a waste of time and money according to one Jersey politician.

Senator Ted Vibert was speaking after it was announced an inquiry would be undertaken by somebody from outside the Island to ensure its impartiality.

He said the money spent on the inquiry could be better used on health or social services.

Les Pas had been claiming ownership of a large area of the waterfront for several years and had threatened to take the States to court over the issue.

The States voted 26 to 16 last week to give the land, worth 10m, to Les Pas before the case was brought to court.

But some States members and taxpayers want to know how the island's administration was forced into having to transfer land paid for by taxpayers to a private company.
