The States debate is a closed meeting |
Jersey's government is due to decide on Tuesday whether to approve an out-of-court settlement over ownership of part of the waterfront. Les Pas Holdings has been claiming ownership of a large area of the waterfront for several years and has threatened to take the States to court over the issue.
Politicians will be asked to vote on whether the land, which is worth 10m, should be transferred to Les Pas to settle the long-running legal dispute over the ownership of much of St Helier's foreshore.
If the deal is rejected by States members, the court case will begin again next month.
Understanding issues
The Les Pas debate will be closed to the public and the media.
The vice president of the Finance and Economics Committee, Senator Philip Ozouf, said he is confident the debate will not go into a second day.
He said: "The decision will be made today.
"States members have spent, rightly, a very significant amount of hours together in the presence of the solicitor general seeking to understand all of the issues.
"The decision about whether or not the deal is to be accepted must be taken today, in my view."
