Airline attacks price rise claim
A Flybe plane
Flybe said the figures do not include its internet sales
A Channel Island airline has attacked statistics published this week which say that islanders have been paying 26% more for air fares.

According to the statistics, increases in air fares have been a major contributor to Jersey's rate of inflation this year.

The figure led to suggestions that the airlines were not passing on the subsidies agreed by the Airport Task Force to keep fares down.

But Flybe said the figures were misleading because they excluded internet sales of tickets.

Flybe said internet sales made up 81% of its total sales and its fares had actually gone down by 21% in the past year.

Vice President of Finance and Economics, Senator Philip Ozouf, who headed the Airport Task Force, has asked for clarification from the airlines to comment and the Statistics Unit.

The overall rate of inflation fell below 4% - to 3.8% - for the first time in nearly two years.
