Flybe will still fly to island

Flybe will continue its flights
Airline Flybe has confirmed it has no intention of stopping flights to Guernsey in the wake of the States' buy-out of Aurigny.

The announcement was made as the company revealed it is offering passengers free flights to London Gatwick.

The initiative means travellers will only pay for airport taxes and charges.

Flybe's General Manager in the Channel Islands, Ian Taylor, said the airline had no intention of abandoning Guernsey's London to Gatwick links and would continue with eight jet flights a day to the UK capital.

Guernsey's politicians voted by 38 to 2 in the States on Wednesday in favour of taking over Aurigny in order to secure links between the island and London Gatwick.

It follows British Airways' decision to stop flying the London to Gatwick route from 16 June.
