Senator says inflation could decrease
Pay slip
Some workers have seen wage increases because of overtime
Inflation in Jersey could come down, despite wages in the island going up.

The president of Jersey's Finance and Economics Committee, Senator Terry Le Sueur, said despite a rise in salaries of 4.7%, the trend in wage increases is going down.

Senator Le Sueur that could mean a drop in the cost of living.

The 4.7% rise was a 0.5% increase on 2002.

Finance industry

States workers received the biggest pay increase last year with two wage rises.

People working in the agriculture and construction industries saw their money drop, because workers in those industries had done less overtime.

And wage rises in Jersey's finance industry are also dropping due to worldwide trends.

In the year to June, finance workers pay went up by 5.6%, a drop of 3% on two years ago.

The Finance Committee claims the fall is not because of redundancies recently made in the sector.
