Roadworks 'on right track'
A Guernsey politician has said roadworks in St Peter Port would have been even more disruptive if utility companies were not working together.

Deputy Pat Mellor, president of the Traffic Committee, praised the new Island Roadworks Integrated System in Queen's Road.

Five contractors, including workers from Guernsey Electricity, Guernsey Gas, Cable and Wireless, the States Water Board and the Public Thoroughfares Committee, have been working together.

However, the road has been closed for longer than expected because gas and water supplies had to be installed separately.

Legislation is being worked on which will allow the Traffic Committee to impose a penalty clause on contractors if they overrun.

Queen's Road is due to reopen on Monday.
