The committee says the change will be a new era of co-ordination |
Road closures in Guernsey could be better co-ordinated in future, thanks to a new computer system and better co-operation between utility companies. The closure of Queen's Road is the first major closure since the States Traffic Committee took over responsibility for town roads from the St Peter Port Douzaine.
For the first time, Guernsey Electricity, Guernsey Gas, Cable and Wireless, the States Water Board and the Public Thoroughfares Committee are working together to complete all the work on the road in a four-week period.
The work is being managed by the Traffic Committee to try to reduce its impact.
Director of Traffic Services, Colin Le Page, says the closure, which is scheduled to coincide with school holidays, marks the beginning of a more co-ordinated approach to road closures on the island.
The Traffic Committee has said that co-ordination will not reduce the amount of roadworks, but will enable them to be better managed.
