Road closures anger company
Guernsey bus
Sixteen out of 17 bus routes are affected by roadworks

Guernsey's Constables should not have the power to close roads, according to the general manager of an island bus company.

Brian Le Feuvre, of Island Coachways, thinks there should be a more co-ordinated approach to roadworks on the island.

Sixteen out of 17 bus routes are currently affected by roadworks.

Some of the bus drivers have been subjected to road-rage from other road users.

Mr Le Feuvre said: "Road closures are affecting 16 out of 17 routes and that doesn't really make for good timekeeping, nor good routes at all.

"We are off the main routes so often now that a lot of the new drivers have never actually done a complete set of routes. They are completely changing from day to day."

No cohesion

Mr Le Feuvre said he believed the States had to set up a system where they could control road closures.

"The power to close roads should be taken away from the Constables of the parishes," he said.

"It should go to one individual body which can control which roads are open and closed."

He said there was no cohesion between parishes over road closures at the moment.
