Argument over bus sizes
Guernsey bus
The Traffic Committee says the buses help protect the environment
Guernsey's new buses are too large for the island's smaller roads, it has been claimed.

Local lorry driver Chris Bichard spends his working life travelling Guernsey's roads and feels smaller vehicles should be used for routes incorporating lanes.

He also said all the bus drivers should be properly instructed.

But Deputy Peter Derham, who is also a driving instructor, disagrees, saying the larger buses are ideal for the island in trying to tackle traffic problems.

Mr Bichard has said the problem is exacerbated by some bus drivers being unfamiliar with the vehicles and the routes.

The States of Guernsey Traffic Committee said: "The buses are of a very modern design and have a host of new features for the comfort and convenience of passengers and to protect the environment."
