Lessons 'should be learned' from deaths
Jersey's Harbours Department says lessons must be learned following the death of two men in the sea off the island's north coast.

At an inquest into the deaths of Jerseymen Roy Spencer, 46, and Terry Rennell, 55, the Assistant Harbourmaster Antony Tanner urged people to be more safety conscious.

The men were killed when their boat overturned in waters off White Rock near Rozel.

The pair had registered the 4.5m-long boat, fibreglass-hulled boat with the harbour department on 24 July - three days before they died.

Mr Tanner told the inquest that sailors should check their gear regularly.

He said such checks may well have been carried out by the two men who died but he urged people heading out to sea to check weather forecasts, safety gear and know the area they are sailing in.

The inquest recorded verdicts of accidental drowning.
