Drug outreach workers needed
Drugs
The conference attracted delegates from several regions
The director of Jersey's Drugs Service says the island needs to reach more of its drug users.

Michael Gafoor was speaking at a Guernsey conference of the British-Irish Council on trends in drug taking.

Experts from England, Northern Ireland and the Isle of Man shared ideas about tackling drug addiction in their communities.

Mr Gafoor said Jersey needed more outreach workers.

He also said the needle exchange scheme had to be expanded so users had clean equipment, because drug users in the Channel Islands were more likely to inject themselves.

"Because drugs are so expensive, drug takers tend to inject the drug to maximise its effect, more so than on the mainland."
