Drug use on the increase
Crack cocaine
Drug users in the island were questioned about their habits
The use of crack cocaine and heroin in Guernsey is on the increase according to a report.

It revealed that 40% of the 179 drug users in the island use heroin, with some addicts spending more than 200 a week on the substance.

It also shows almost three quarters use cannabis.

Drug users registered with agencies in the island were questioned about their habits and the data was collected in the first annual Drug Misuse Database report.

Customs and Excise Chief Officer, Brian Richings, said the survey confirmed much of what they already knew, that Class A drug use in the island was increasing.

Drugs Strategy Coordinator Maria Eggleston said the report was useful but did not give a full picture of the drug problem in the island.
