Water restrictions to stay in place
Water running from a tap
A hosepipe ban has reduced demand by 25%
Restrictions on the use of water are in Jersey are likely to remain in force until the end of September.

The warm dry weather has led to low water levels in reservoirs and the island's desalination plant has also been running for the last three months to keep fresh water supplies available.

Since a hosepipe ban was introduced, the Jersey's New Waterworks Company says demand has fallen by 25%.

But waterworks Managing Director Howard Snowdon has said the restrictions will continue for a while.

Weather forecasts

Running the desalination plant has cost the company thousands of pounds.

It will be kept operating until the weather changes and starts restoring reservoir levels.

Howard Snowdon said: "We've operated the desalination plant now since the end of June.

"We don't envisage the plant coming off until the end of this month, looking at the weather forecasts."

"We're looking at 120,000 to 180,000 for the desalination plant alone in energy over the period it's run."
