Mixed fortunes for air display
Jersey's Battle of Britain air display took off after fears that it would be delayed because of bad weather.

The organisers decided to give the weather a chance to improve and the show began on time, at 1300.

Guernsey missed out on a display by the Red Arrows - the finale of the annual display - because of bad weather.

The Memorial Flight of World War II aircraft also had to pull out because of low cloud.

A Jersey Air Display spokesman said: "It was touch and go whether we had a show.

"It's a tribute to flight control and to everyone who pulled the stops out at the last minute to make sure it happened, and bang on time too."

Emergency services were put on alert at Jersey Airport on Wednesday after an RAF Harrier due to take part in the display reported problems coming in to land.

The pilot managed to land safely but was unable to taxi to a hangar because he was unsure if the brakes would work.

The Ministry of Defence has launched an investigation after an RAF Red Arrows plane overshot the runway at Jersey Airport as it came into land on Tuesday.

Neither the pilot nor co-pilot was injured.
