Two fast catamarans will begin services this summer |
Jersey taxpayers could be asked to pay towards the costs of a new ferry service between the Island and France. The service between Gorey and the Cherbourg peninsula, due to start next month, is being viewed as an important addition to links between Jersey and France.
But monitoring arrivals in Jersey requires resources such as police and custom officers.
And the home affairs committee, which has responsibility for customs, is already trying to reduce its spending.
It will discuss the matter on Thursday, and it is likely to ask the finance and economics committee for extra resources.
Jersey bus operator Connex is to run the link using two fast catamarans.
The company intends to run a daily service during the summer, and weekly during the winter.
