Connex has hired two boats for two services this summer |
Connex, the company which operates Jersey's buses, is to run a ferry service to France. The link to Carteret, Granville and Portbail will start in mid-June.
The Normandy government body, the Conseil General de la Manche, is keen to strengthen links between France and Jersey.
It has hired two boats for two services this summer.
Summer service
Connex is to form a new company called Societe de Navigation de Normandie, which will operate two routes.
The Northern route will link various Norman ports with Jersey, Guernsey and Sark and will be served by a high speed catamaran called the Victor Hugo.
The other route will run between Jersey and Granville, on a jet catamaran called Marin Marie.
The company intends to run a daily service during the summer, and weekly during the winter.
'Two-based holiday'
It is claimed more tourists will come to stay in Jersey when the new ferries begin to operate.
Seamus Canavan from the Maison de Jersey in Caen believes that will be good for everyone.
He said: "It means that people will come from far afield to have a two-based holiday.
"They can spend some time in Normandy itself, visiting the beaches and Mont St Michel, etc; and then have a day or two days in the islands."
