It is being claimed that Jersey travellers should not be affected by Guernsey States' decision to buy the local airline Aurigny.
Harbours and Airport President Senator Len Norman says if anything it could make sure the islands' air links are preserved.
Guernsey States members voted overwhelmingly to buy the airline for 5m, and to underwrite any losses by 2m.
There have been fears the move could lead to a decline in choice for Jersey passengers, as other airlines consider pulling out of some routes.
Independent body
But Senator Norman says it could actually benefit travellers over the coming years.
Politicians voted by 38 to 2 in the States on Wednesday in favour of taking over Aurigny in order to secure links between the island and London Gatwick.
It follows British Airways' decision to stop flying the London to Gatwick route from 16 June.
A number of deputies chose not to vote, and a sursis, aimed at giving politicians more time to discuss the takeover, was defeated.
The go-ahead was also given to investigate setting up a new independent body to regulate air transport licensing.
