The way politicians in Jersey decide how much they are paid is due to be debated on in the States on Tuesday.

The current system, where politicians set their own salaries, has been questioned by the island's newest politician.

In the debate, Senator Ted Vibert will say the practice calls into question the integrity of Jersey's government.

He is proposing setting up a group which would decide the matter in public.

Other questions

There are also 12 sets of questions on the agenda for Tuesday's sitting.

The Home Affairs president will be giving more details about three complaints against Jersey police when CS spray was used last year.

And the Health president will be quizzed on whether emergency vehicles have problems using roads that have been altered in town.

States members will also be asked whether to sign an international agreement to ban the death penalty in times of war.

Although the death penalty has already been abolished for all offences in Jersey, it still has not agreed to sign Protocol 13 of to the European Convention on Human Rights and Fundamental Freedoms.
