Politicians debate conduct code
Jersey States
Jersey States
Rules setting out standards Jersey's politicians should observe are to be debated in the States on Tuesday.

States members will be discussing a draft Code of Conduct, which is the main feature of the sitting.

The code aims to restore public faith and confidence in the island's government.

If the plans drawn up by the Privileges and Procedures Committee are approved, States members will be expected to observe a clear set of rules in the course of their public duties.

Any alleged breach will be investigated by a complaints sub-committee.

Punishments would range from States members having to make a public apology, being censured, or, in more serious cases, facing a period of suspension from the States.

Aside from the Code of Conduct, Tuesday's sitting will feature 16 sets of questions, covering inflation, housing qualifications, ferries and the future of Fort Regent.
