Commission to boost island sport
School sports day
The Guernsey Sports Commission will receive 200,000 a year
A shadow commission has been set up by Guernsey's Recreation Committee to help raise money for local sport.

The Guernsey Sports Commission will receive a yearly 200,000 grant from the committee to get the funding under way.

A new shadow trust has also been formed to act as a watchdog for the commission's activities.

The law officers are currently processing the States' approval of the groups.

Improved investment

The shadow commission and shadow trust have been formed in the meantime to allow them to begin to carry out their duties.

The Commission's mandate is to promote and support a healthy, active and successful sporting community through improved investment in sporting and recreational activities.

One of its main duties will be to find new sources of finance for sport.

The Recreation Committee has delegated a number of responsibilities to the group and said the commission met a clear need to provide for sport.
