Plan for new sports partnership
Sport stadium
The Sports Commission would seek to build partnerships
The formation of a new private-public partnership to promote island sport will go before the States of Guernsey for approval later this month.

The Recreation Committee says the proposed Sports Commission would ensure the benefit of sport to the island was recognised.

The Sports Commission would include representatives from the Recreation Committee, Sports Council, Island and Commonwealth Games Associations, Youth Sports Trust, the Council for Disability Sport and the Association of Sports Coaches.

Governing bodies for local sports would also be expected to become members of the Commission.

It would also seek to build partnerships with other bodies, including the States Education Council, Board of Health and Tourist Board.

The Commission would build on the work of the current Sports Council and make use of private sector resources.

It would also take responsibility from the Recreation Committee for sport development initiatives, funding awards, fund-raising and sponsorship and strategies for developing sporting facilities.
