Rowe rewarded with top honour
Runners
Runner Sadie Addlessee won the Andrew Croft Memorial Trophy
Duathlete Alan Rowe won Guernsey's top sporting honour at the island's annual awards ceremony.

Rowe was presented with the Wilkinson Sword - the top honour of the Guernsey Sports Council.

It was in recognition of his capture of a world duathlon title last October when he saw off more than 1,000 competitors from 25 different countries.

The Bailiff of Guernsey, Sir de Vic Carey, presented the awards at a ceremony at Beau Sejour.

Unenviable challenge

With a massive array of sporting talent to choose from, the judges had an unenviable challenge choosing the winners.

Runner Sadie Addlessee was named as the up and coming sports person of the year, collecting the Andrew Croft Memorial Trophy.

It was awarded as much for her grit and guts to overcome serious injury as for her character and fine performances on the track.

Team of the Year was a closely-fought category, but the heroics of the Circuit Oars nautical rowing team saw them pick up the Sports Council Trophy.

The Guernsey Sports Association for the Disabled recognised the efforts of table tennis player Mark Matthews and swimmer Sarah Whitchurch, who won the Liam McKenna Trophy and Cate Jackson Trophy respectively.
