The Island Games gets under way on 28 June |
Training is going well for Guernsey athletes in the run-up to the Island Games. The games gets under way in Guernsey on 28 June.
Guernsey team co-ordinator Charlie Cottam said there was a good mix of youth and experience in the team.
He said that, while standards rose at every Games, he was confident the Guernsey competitors would rise to the occasion.
Among the competitors to watch in the ladies' events are Emma King, who will be defending the hammer gold medal she won at the last Games in the Isle of Man.
Strong showing
Team-mate Kimberley Goodall, who missed out on that occasion due to injury, is also expected to make a strong showing in the 400m and 800m.
Relays could also be another strong area for Guernsey across the board, as could the half marathon.
In the men's team, sprinter Ryan de Haaf will be looking to smash the long-standing Guernsey record of 10.9 seconds in the 100m, and is well on course to do so if conditions are right.
Brothers Lee and Dale Garland are also on course for a podium placing in the steeplechase and long jump events respectively.
Elsewhere, there are high hopes for Commonwealth Games athlete Lee Merrien, who is expected to show his usual front-running technique in the 800m and 1500m events.
