Police say they cannot move groups of young people on |
Jersey's housing president is to investigate whether the police have powers to move on young people who hang around housing estates. Recent vandalism has angered people living in the Les Quennevais area and people at Le Marais in St Clement.
Deputy Terry Le Main is concerned some residents are not getting enough support.
He says it is an ongoing problem in other areas of the island as well.
Reduce vandalism
He has pledged to take further action on Monday.
He is writing to Jersey Police and speaking to his department's civil servants to find out if more can be done to police the island's housing estates.
Residents have been told by police they are unable to move on young people who are simply hanging around.
Deputy Le Main wants to see more action taken and he wants to continue to work with residents' groups to reduce vandalism.
He also hopes to bring in more closed-circuit television cameras.
