Students dispute vandalism claims
Teenagers
Youngsters are concerned they are being blamed for the damage
Students at a Jersey school say it is unfair to blame all young people for recent acts of vandalism in St Brelade.

A residents' meeting was held on Wednesday night to discuss the damage which has been done to public property in the parish totalling thousands of pounds.

Vandals broke benches, smashed slabs and shattered windows in Les Quennevais.

Year Eleven pupil Tom McGuire said he is concerned that all young people in the parish are being branded as vandals.

Much of the vandalism is actually directed at facilities they themselves use
John Thorp, headteacher of Les Quennevais school

"It is not all of us, it is always branded as a group," said Tom.

"It could just be one person that may not live anywhere near this side of the island."

The headteacher of Les Quennevais school, John Thorp said some of his pupils have been very angry about the vandalism.

"The vast majority of students feel very alienated by it ," said Mr Thorp.

"Much of the vandalism is actually directed at facilities they themselves use, so they are actually primary victims of quite a bit of the vandalism they might experience."
