Residents worried over vandalism
Firefighter
A fire last month is thought to have been started deliberately
Residents on a Jersey estate have called for a meeting with housing and parish officials after a recent fire and vandalism.

A fire last month on the Le Marais estate, thought to have been started deliberately, put a man in hospital, while six others had a lucky escape.

A spokesperson for the residents in one tower block says they are frustrated.

They want the States to install CCTV cameras, alarms and a sprinkler system in the flats.

The fire was started next to the lift entrance on the ground floor.

One man passed out while trying to extinguish it, and six others almost stepped into it when their lift door opened.

Residents frustrated

The incident occurred last month, but residents are now frustrated about a breakdown in order on the estate and are seeking answers.

A meeting with the housing department has been sought by residents, who are planning to form a committee.

Spokesperson Sue Le Vesconte says they are frustrated because they are never sure whether to call the police or the housing department if there is trouble.

It is claimed there has been a build-up of trouble on the estate since last summer.
