Final Destination tops UK chart

3D horror movie The Final Destination has gone straight to number one in the UK and Ireland box office chart.

It knocked Quentin Tarantino's war film Inglourious Basterds off the top spot - it slipped to number two.

There were three other new entries in the top 10, including comedy Funny People, starring Adam Sandler and Eric Bana, which entered the chart at three.

Iraq war film The Hurt Locker came in at eight, with Pedro Almodovar's Broken Embraces going in at number 10.

The Time Traveller's wife slipped two places to number four, while Aliens in the Attic dropped one place to number five.

Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince is at number six, now in its seventh week on the chart.

Family comedy G-Force is at number seven.

GI Joe: The Rise of the Cobra, based on the US version of the toy figure Action Man, lies in 9th place.

It stars Dennis Quaid and Sienna Miller.

The total gross earnings for the top 15 films over the three-day weekend was £10.1m.
