Dog drama Marley and Me topped the UK box office charts in its opening week, taking �4.4m in ticket sales. The film pairs Jennifer Aniston and Owen Wilson as a husband and wife who are taught life lessons by their naughty golden labrador. The family-friendly picture pushed dark tale Watchmen down into second place. The adaptation of Alan Moore's cult graphic novel took �1.4m, while Clint Eastwood's Gran Torino took �818,576 and third place. In fifth place was costume drama The Young Victoria, which stars Emily Blunt as the future queen. The controversial film about the life of armed robber Charles Bronson went into the charts in 10th place. The film, starring Tom Hardy, had attracted criticism from prison officers for glorifying violence.
