Freema Agyeman and Catherine Tate are both popular with fans

Doctor Who actresses Catherine Tate and Freema Agyeman will compete for the title of favourite female TV star at Nickelodeon's Kids' Choice awards.

The sci-fi series has netted a record four nominations - and the Time Lord himself, David Tennant, is up for favourite male TV star.

In the family TV show category, Doctor Who faces X Factor, Britain's Got Talent and Harry Hill's TV Burp.

The second UK Kids' Choice Awards take place in London on 13 September.

The Daleks have made it into the favourite baddie award - up against the original "Mr Nasty" Simon Cowell - who last week topped a US poll of reality TV villains.

Beckham's battle

Favourite films competing this year are action epic Indiana Jones, family fantasy The Spiderwick Chronicles, Philip Pullman adaptation The Golden Compass and The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian.

David Beckham will go head-to-head with British Grand Prix winner Lewis Hamilton in the sports person category.

Talent TV shows are also recognised, with street dancer George Sampson, Dancing On Ice's Suzanne Shaw, Strictly Come Dancing's Alesha Dixon and The X Factor's Leon Jackson all competing in the favourite winner section.

Last year's favourite TV presenters Ant and Dec are in the running again, along with Dermot O'Leary, Holly Willoughby and comedian Harry Hill.

Amy Adams, Georgie Henley, Anna Popplewell and Dakota Blue Richards are all in contention for favourite female star.

In the male category, film stars William Moseley, Daniel Craig, Freddie Highmore and Shia LeBeouf compete.

All of the winners are chosen by children who vote online or via the red button.

The audience at the September event will be made up of 2,500 children, who are all competition winners.

Harry Potter and The Simpsons picked up two gongs each at last year's awards, which also saw presenter Holly Willoughby coated in green slime as she entered the famous Nickelodeon Hall of Slime.
